An unusual and extremely attractive heritage variety with purple flowers followed by purple pods which may be eaten as mangetout when young or allowed to grow into swollen pods full of sweet green peas. Highly ornamental and tasty too!
Sow thinly direct into soil prepared by digging and raking at a depth of 5cm (2″) in flat drills 15cm (6″) wide in double rows with seed approx. 5cm (2″) apart. Germination 7-10 days. Allow 75cm (30″) between further rows. Support plants with twiggy sticks or pea netting. Grows best in a sunny position in well-cultivated soil containing plenty of well-rotted manure or compost. Sow small batches in succession every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply. Water well during dry weather to aid flower setting and pea formation. Sowing – Cropping: 12-16 weeks.
