Over time I’ve found that a small number of reliable tools and simple techniques make growing and cooking far easier. This page collects some of the equipment and practical tips that I regularly use on the allotment and in the kitchen.
Tools for the Plot
- Hand trowel – useful for planting seedlings and small jobs.
- Dutch hoe – ideal for controlling young weeds.
- Garden fork – useful when harvesting root crops.
- Watering can – essential for seedlings and dry weather. I recommend a 16L zinc coated one with a rose attachment .. once you use this sort you won’t want to use a plastic one again!
- String line – helps keep rows straight.
- Plant labels – useful for identifying crops.
